5 Senses

This week we learned a lot about our 5 senses, the letter "S", and the number 5!  We had a great new center that was full of things to explore with our senses.  We had rubber gloves full of different things to touch, eggs full of different things to hear, canisters full of cotton balls and smelly things to smell, magnifying glasses to look at things, and all sorts of different textures to touch.  It was a big hit! The kids love trying to figure out what was inside!

After we investigated ALL day, the kids had a blast trying to guess what was inside.  They did a great job and got almost all of them right!  I was very impressed.

The kids also got to make a book about their 5 senses.  They worked real hard to make the number 5 on the cover and cut out all their senses.  Then they had a lot of fun putting stickers on the pages.  Their favorite stickers were defenitly the smelly ones.  They were completely amazed that the stickers really smelled!

We also reviewed the letter S.  They all did a GREAT job remembering the sound it made, and they really enjoyed painting a big letter S!  I think they turned out SENSATIONAL!

We also had a little extra fun with the sense of hearing.  The kids got to paint a couple plates and we put a bell inside to make a noise maker.  The kids loved painting the plates, but the best part of this project was making all that music.

It was another great day with a great group of kids!  Can't wait to see them all next week!

Dental Health

This week we learned all about our BIG beautiful teeth!  Just look at all of them we have.

We were so blessed to have Dr. Jenkins and his puppet Bobo visit our classroom today and teach us all about brushing and flossing.  He taught us to brush twice a day, and Bobo showed us how to brush so we didn't miss a spot.  He taught us to do the tops, bottoms, insides, outsides, and our tongue!  It was a lot of fun to watch Bobo show us all about brushing!

After Dr. Jenkins taught us all about dental health, we were able to go back to our room and practice our brushing and flossing skills.  We used a Expo marker, toothbrush, and a tooth cut out to brush away stains and an egg carton and yarn to floss away decay!

It took A LOT of hardwork to brush some of those stains away, and A LOT of hand eye cordination to get our floss in the right spot.

We also worked on our cutting skills while making a toothbrush that reminded us to "Brush everyday."

Then just for fun we made a tooth puppet that had our tooth song for the week.  "Brush, brush. brush your teeth"

It was another great day with a great group of kids.  Thank you so much for all you do.

Valentine's Day

Wow, did we have fun today!  We spent the day doing everything Valentine's and hearts today!  The kids had so much fun working on their gluing and tracing skills to create their very own Valentine bag.  They glued hearts all over the bag and then they traced the first letter of their name on the bag.  We have been working very hard on the first letter of their name and I am very proud of all their hard work.

We worked on the skill smallest to biggest by placing different sized hearts in order.   The kids loved working with the glue and putting them on  the paper all by themselves!

We also got out the paint to make some very special Valentine's for all of you.  We used our very own hands to make a heart and show you just how much we love you!

Then came the highlight of the day.... A PARTY!!  The kids learned how white and red make pink, and then they practiced their spreading skills to put frosting all over their heart shaped cookie.  It was oooh so yummy and fun to eat!

I hope you all have a great Valentine's Day with your little ones!  See you next week :)

Nursery Rhymes

Last week we had a lot of fun with nursery rhymes.  The kids loved singing some of their old favorites and learning a few new ones along the way.

We had a little extra fun with 5 classic nursery rhymes.  We gave our large muscles a workout with "Jack be Nimble."  The kids had a blast pretending to be Jack and jumping over the candle stick!

As you can see some of them can really jump!

We also had a lot of fun with "Pat-A-Cake!  The kids made their own cakes out of play-doh, and they worked really hard to find their letter.  Some even had fun cooking their cakes on the grill.  It is so much fun watching their imaginations going.  They come up with some great activities all on their own!  We worked on our writing/ tracing skills and used a pen and paper to decorate a paper cake with the first letter of our name.  The kids are really doing great and working hard on their names.  I am very proud of them!

Next we had some fun with "Humpty Dumpty."  The kids had fun making their own Humpty Dumpty with Mr. Potatoe Head, and then they worked on their fine motor skills and ripped up paper to make their own Humpty Dumpty to bring home.  It was a very difficult skill for them, but they worked really hard and ended up with some very cute Humpty Dumptys!

We also worked on some higher level thinking skills and made bridges to go over the water in our "London Bridges" center.  The kids came up some pretty elaborate plans and loved having the cars go over and under the bridges they built!

Finally we made some cute spiders with our hands to celebrate "Itsy Bitsy Spider."  It was a great day full of song and activity.  Thank you so much for sharing your kids with me.  It is such a joy to have all of them in class every week.
