The Polar Express

What a fun week we had with the book The Polar Express and everything trains!  We started the week making a name train with our LAST name!  The kids designed their engine, cut it out, glued it onto a sentence strip in a red green pattern, and then wrote their last name on the train cars!  It was a very cool activity and we had some pretty loooong trains!

We followed step-by-step directions to draw a train.
We had a very cool alphabet train that the kids loved building and playing with!

And we even made trains using pattern blocks and graphed how many of each block we used!

We also did A LOT with the theme of Christmas!  The kids had a blast making snowflake ornaments for their tree, and it was a great way to sneak in some fine motor practice!

They matched upper and lowercase letters by stamping them on the Christmas Tree.

And even read color words to decorate lights on a reindeer's antlers!
We ended our week with the BIG Polar Express celebration!  Each kid had to get their ticket punched to board the Polar Express!

Then they boarded the train and listened to the story The Polar Express.

After the story was over, we heard ringing in the classroom.  We looked and looked to discover we all had bells under our chairs!
Then we took our tickets and bells to our seats to enjoy a Polar Express Treat.  We had "hot chocolate" with marshmallows, candy canes, and made a graham cracker choo-choo train!  We listened to Christmas music and had fun with our friends!

It was a great way to kick off the holiday season!  I can't wait to continue it next week with Gingerbread!

Happy Thanksgiving

We had an AWESOME week learning about the very 1st Thanksgiving!  We learned that the Pilgrims came over on the Mayflower and made our very own Mayflower using our hand prints as the boat!

We also learned that Native American didn't write like we do today.  We used some of their symbols to decorate a Native American vest and a shape pattern to decorate a head-dress.

We also learned about the way Pilgrims dressed and made Pilgrim hats.

We made a special card to say "Happy Thanksgiving" to all of you and to show you just how thankful we are to have you.
Then we ended the week with our BIG Thanksgiving Day celebration!  All the classes gathered in Mrs. Jamie's Room and listened to the story The Very First Thanksgiving.

Then we headed over to Mrs. Tracy's room, where we enjoyed a popcorn snack and made a turkey cookie.  It was so much fun and the kids had a blast getting together with all their friends to enjoy their "feast"!

The kids worked so hard on their turkeys, and they turned out great!  Check them out!

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!!!  See you on Monday for Picture Day!

Turkeys

We had a fun time gobbling up the theme Turkeys this week.  We painted turkeys and put their feathers in the correct order using ordinal number.

We designed our very own turkeys using bingo dotters!

Made graphs with different types of turkey food.

Dug into the sensory bin full of turkey feathers, nuts, leaves, seeds, and magnifying glasses.
We did an ABC Dot-to-Dot to make a turkey.
And made a very special turkey for all of you!
We also talked a lot about being thankful, and on Tuesday the kids had A LOT to be thankful for when some of our goodies from the Trike-a-thon fundraiser arrived!  Check out all the great stuff we got so far!
